A fabulous antique Suffragette pendant from the early 1900s fashioned in 9ct gold with a scrolling, open-work, Art Nouveau design. It’s decorated with seed pearls, a peridot dropper (approx. 0.70ct) and an emerald cut amethyst bezel set in the centre (approx. 1.8ct).
Jewellery displaying the colours green, violet and white was often worn in support of the Women’s Social and Political Union (WSPU) which was at the forefront of the UK suffrage movement in the early 1900s. They adopted these three colours to highlight their key virtues: Violet for Royalty, White for Purity and Green for Hope, and also formed the phrase “Give Women Votes!”
It’s remained in excellent condition and is a beautiful reminder of such a pivotal movement in British history.
